Little Bao! A tiny restaurant situated just behind PMQ that ALWAYS has visitors lining outside , waiting for their hot & cold “bao” (Chinese term for bread). Finally, on one quiet evening we decided to give it a shot.
Pork Belly Bao! OKAY this bao typically reminds me of the Narnie from a popular cafe Three Williams, Sydney. It just blew our mind away! Pork belly was slow – braised, with the right balance of fat and meat (Its bursting flavours and tender!). Served with leek & shiso red onion salad, sesame dressing and hoisin (seafood) ketchup. HK$78
As matcha/ greentea lovers we were slightly hesitant to try their green tea “bao”, as we weren’t sure if its got the kinda bitterness we were after. Nevertheless, we ordered and to our surprise, its SO TINY, when I say tiny its really like… you can finish the whole thing within 2 bites! The white bun was deep fried, tasted somewhat like “mantou”, its golden and crispy, not too greasy after all. The ice-cream wasn’t made of Uji matcha powder but we liked the bitterness in it, green tea flavour was quite rich. Condensed milk in between gave it extra creaminess & sweetness. HK$48
Moving on, obviously this one ice-cream bao wasn’t enough to satisfy our stomach! So we also got the Salted Caramel version of it. Milk ice-cream was creamy, rich, velvety, very delicious, with salted caramel sauced drizzled on top. I think they made the salted caramel sauce themselves and theres a very, very slight burnt taste in it that made it a little bitter but thats okay, we really enjoyed it. HK$48 Shame that LB Hot Chicken were sold out, we’ll definitely come back for it (earlier) next time 🙂
